Save DC's 'Screen on the Green' This Summer

How would you like to have your company logo seen by 75,000 people this summer? Yes, I’m asking for money, but I’m also pitching a win/win proposition for your company.

Every summer, for five Monday nights, 75,000 Washingtonians flock to the National Mall for a tradition as beloved as the Cherry Blossom Festival. It’s ‘Screen on the Green’: classic Hollywood films shown under the stars, in the shadow of the Capitol dome – free. It doesn’t get more American than that.

But days ago, HBO – a longtime co-sponsor – announced it was canceling ‘Screen on the Green’ for lack of a funding partner.  For fans, it was like canceling Christmas. In the spirit of Barack Obama, the nation’s community organizer, we launched an online petition to bring back the festival. HBO was so moved, they agreed – if we can find a co-sponsor.

What’s so special about ‘Screen on the Green’?
It’s where memories are made. Thousands of movie lovers gather with blankets and picnics, waiting for the sun to go down and we’re treated to a cartoon. Then the feature rolls: Citizen Kane and Casablanca. Rocky and Dr. No.  And magic happens. One fan met her husband-to-be while watching Bogart and Bacall. Another made D.C. his home after wandering into last year’s screening of The Candidate. “Right there,” he said, “I was sold. I was home!” And why not? ‘Screen on the Green’ celebrates an American heritage – classic movies – right in America’s front yard: the Mall. Only in Washington.

To save ‘Screen on the Green’, we need to raise $150,000.
If you decide to be our sponsor or co-sponsor, it’s your name we’ll all see on that big screen, and you will be credited as “saving” “Screen on the Green." You can’t put a price on that kind of PR. And where else do the fans dance when the sponsor’s credit appears? We have bloggers, twitterers, and the old fashioned news media waiting to hear YOU “save” “Screen on the Green."

Help us keep the magic alive!
